Since we do not have the reading schedule up yet and since I just finished the “Rooted” plan that church was doing I did not have anything specific to read this morning. I was studying for tonight’s FNA(Friday Night Alive) and there were a bunch of verses in “The Purpose Driven Life” which is the outline for what I am doing in the current FNA series. Rick Warren uses lots of different translations in the book and sometimes I think, “Is that really what it says or means?” This morning I marked 4 verses to go back and look at a little closer, 2 Corinthians 10:13, Proverbs 3:28, Ecclesiastes 11:4, and Galatians 5:26. They were in the New Living Translation, Todays English Version, the New Living Translation, and The Message, in that order. I went back and read them in a New American Standard Translation. If you hover over the references in this blog it will bring them up in the English Standard Version and if you click on them you will go to a web site where it will read them for you. Any way I read them in their context. For example I read the 2 Corinthians verse from the beginning of the chapter. The Proverbs verses I read with verse 27. I especially liked Proverbs 3:27-28. those verses remind me that I need to serve others with what I have. If I can help today I should help today. If I owe someone something today and can pay it I should. It reminds me of the verses in James that tell us to meet the needs of others (James 2:14-15) and to pay our employees right away (James 5:1-6). god help us all remember that we are servants of yours and that the thing we have really belong to you. Help us use the things you have given to us like you would.
Delta Force Junior High Ministries
The purpose of ∆ Force Junior High Ministries is two fold. First, we want to help you make sense out of your world by giving you a solid foundation in the Word of God. We want to help answer your questions about life. Second, we want to help you gain a God centered view of your relationships with others. We want to help you use your relationships to give honor to God. We do this through various activities and ministries. On Sunday mornings we meet for Sunday Scripture Exploration. On the first, third, and fifth Fridays it’s at FNA. And every day it’s here at Delta Force Daily as we spend a little time with God and together. Find out more by clicking on the links in the main menu then join us at one of our meetings and maybe we can help you make a difference to those around you by shining for God in your world. Your presence certainly would be a bright spot in our day.
Todays Random Reading
Welcome
Welcome to Delta Force Daily. My name is Myron and I am the Jr. High Director at Village Bible Church in Garden Grove (The Church’s web site is linked at the bottom of the home page). I have been a volunteer in the Jr. High department for 20 years. After years of watching students struggle with a daily Bible reading I thought it might be interesting to read together, plus it will keep me accountable too. I hope this blog will serve that purpose. On the home page are some menus that will lead to information about other aspects of our ministry. Also there is a section called “Did you know?” The purpose of that section is to give information that will help understand whatever book we are reading. Peter tells us that we don’t get to make up what the Bible means. The meaning comes from God who is using the Bible to communicate to us (1 Peter 1:21:22). Paul told Timothy to study the Bible and be careful to interpret it correctly (2 Timothy 2:15). The various books of the Bible were written with a purpose, context, and setting. They were written by some one for some one at a particular time under particular circumstances. But the bible was also written to all of us too. Paul also told Timothy that the whole Bible was profitable for our lives. We need to be careful to look at the original setting and meaning before we think about how a particular part of the Bible applies to us. We cannot read the story of Rahab and think that we should go around lying to others. So we need to read the “Did you know?” pages to keep in mind the setting of the part we are reading. Remember too that the first and most important context of any part of the Bible is the Bible itself. When the Bible tells us that David was a man after God’s own heart and we also read that David committed adultery with Bathsheba we should not think that adultery is ok. Remember in Exodus 20 God specifically told us not to commit adultery. So check back in tomorrow and look at the reading schedule page. I will have the book of Galatians divided up and you can see what your first assignment is for Sunday. I will also try to have a introduction page for Galatians in “Did you know?” Be sure to check out the page on the life of Paul too. And don’t forget to register so you can leave comments. I’d love to hear from you about how your reading is going and what God is telling you through it.
