Since we do not have the reading schedule up yet and since I just finished the “Rooted” plan that church was doing I did not have anything specific to read this morning. I was studying for tonight’s FNA(Friday Night Alive) and there were a bunch of verses in “The Purpose Driven Life” which is the outline for what I am doing in the current FNA series. Rick Warren uses lots of different translations in the book and sometimes I think, “Is that really what it says or means?” This morning I marked 4 verses to go back and look at a little closer, 2 Corinthians 10:13, Proverbs 3:28, Ecclesiastes 11:4, and Galatians 5:26. They were in the New Living Translation, Todays English Version, the New Living Translation, and The Message, in that order. I went back and read them in a New American Standard Translation. If you hover over the references in this blog it will bring them up in the English Standard Version and if you click on them you will go to a web site where it will read them for you. Any way I read them in their context. For example I read the 2 Corinthians verse from the beginning of the chapter. The Proverbs verses I read with verse 27. I especially liked Proverbs 3:27-28. those verses remind me that I need to serve others with what I have. If I can help today I should help today. If I owe someone something today and can pay it I should. It reminds me of the verses in James that tell us to meet the needs of others (James 2:14-15) and to pay our employees right away (James 5:1-6). god help us all remember that we are servants of yours and that the thing we have really belong to you. Help us use the things you have given to us like you would.
